How a meal a day can give children an education – and turn around their lives

RetireEasy.co.uk is proud to support the The Akshaya Patra Foundation UK,  an Indian NGO that provides a mid-day meal to 1.5 million school children in India’s poorest communities every day.

The The Akshaya Patra mission is to reach out to five million children by 2020.

Why is this work so important?

The surest way to break out of the cycle of poverty is through education. Yet over eight million underprivileged children in India are forced out of school and into child labour in order to earn enough to eat.

Critically, ensuring every child remains in education for as long as possible has massive benefits for a family for generations to come, taking them out of the cycle of poverty.

Yet the cost of feeding a child in this way for a whole year is just £10. This meal is a powerful tool towards releasing the potential of each child and building a better nation.
